A Much Better Way to Craft

I am so glad that I purchased my Cuttlebug. My mother-in-law is always trying to outdo me with all her crafts, and now I can show off what I have. It seemed like she just wanted to buy all these expensive tools to impress me, and I just could not afford to handle that at all. I suppose that I feel like there are so many opportunities for me to look into at this moment. I know that I can make tons of awesome cards and signs with this machine. My mother-in-law wants to compete with me, and she is going to be really sorry that she ever started the challenge in the first place. The fact of the matter is that I am so much better than her, and I know that I just like to invest so much more time than she could ever stand. She and the whole family will see how much better I am.

Washing Fabrics and Your Finished Quilt

Some quilters wash all their fabrics as soon as they bring them home from the fabric store, then press them, and store them away ready for use. Others wash them as they are getting ready to use them in a project. Some are very strict about washing all their fabrics whether dark or light, or bright colored or not. I usually wash only colors that I think might bleed, which is most of the fabrics.

If all the pieces of my quilt are in the same shade, like all fall colors, I won’t necessarily wash any of them, but if I’m mixing them with fairly light colors, then I will. It is better to be safe than sorry, and prewash your fabrics. If your new to quilt making then it’s best to just prewash your fabrics.

If I have some pieces like quarter yard pieces or fat quarters, I will often just hand wash them in the sink with a gentle soap and then hang them over the back of a chair to dry and then press and use to make the quilt or other project. I would wash the fabrics in warm water or cold, maybe which ever you want to wash your finished quilt later.

Often though, although I prewashed my fabric in warm water, later, the finished quilt, I will still wash in cold water, especially if I used colors like red, and black with white in the quilt. Then if you are scared it will still bleed, take your quilt out of the washer immediately after the cycle is done. Don’t let it sit in there wet. Take it out and hang it over the backs of a couple of chairs to air dry, so that none of the pieces are touching each other, like laying on top of each other.

Just use a gentle detergent to wash your quilt, or none at all. As I use my quilts, I was in warm water and dry in dryer the same as other clothes. I wash them the same as I wash my sheets, since I sleep with my quilts every night. I use my quilts until I’ve worn them out and need a new one. This is the luxury of knowing how to make a quilt any way and anytime you want.

Make Your Windows Look More Attractive with Window Valances

Are you bored with the way your window look? Are your curtains beginning to look so drab? To make your windows look a bit more interesting why not try adding window valances? These are pieces of curtains that you add as an accent to your existing curtain display. You can also use these in place of your floor length curtains. These usually measure up to 1/3 of the length of your entire window so they don’t offer much of a cover against light and air filtering into the room. It depends on the kind of material, color and design that you will choose that will determine how valances can be a beautiful accent into a dull interior.

These valances will require an extra curtain rod for you to install if they are meant to complement your other window treatments. They are usually sold separate or in matching tandem with regular sized curtains. You will find several designs by browsing thru the internet or referring to home decorating guides you will find in bookstores.

Lost and Won the Figurines

So many things happened in the last three months. First, I lost two of my hummels figurines. I am a fan, a collector, an admirer, or whatever you may want to call it, of such figurines that I will really be sad if I lost even one of them, how much more the two. And those two are among my favorite designs. I knew I placed them somewhere. It was when we were packing our things because we had to move to another house. I was really wondering why on earth would it be separated from the other figurines when in fact I was the one who packed them together and I was so sure of that. The next day at our new house, I was unpacking our things. To my disappointment, I never found those two. I searched all our things but I never found even a bit of trace.

Second, my mother knows how I love collecting LLadro Figurines that she signed my name on a raffle ticket wherein the prize would be the best selling figurine. I never knew that she did this thing. I was just surprised last month when I received a phone call. The caller informed me that I just won a Lladro figurine and they just needed the ticket to claim the prize. I instantly called at home, informing them of the winning prize. I also asked them who signed my name on the ticket. Unfortunately, my mother was out of the country that time. Long distance calls are so expensive. So none of them knew who signed me for that ticket. I asked my friends and they did not also know. The deadline for me to claim the prize was coming near and I almost lost hope. Mom arrived the day before the deadline. I told her about it and luckily, she still kept the ticket. I was so happy, thanks mom!

My Sky Lanterns Odd Experience

In one of the hot air balloon festivals I and my son visited, something caught his attention. I was engrossed with the big balloons leaving the ground simultaneously, so I thought we were both watching the same picture. However, he was strangely quiet while gazing at the flying lighted objects. When I looked back, he was about to leave my side to check what these things were. I immediately grabbed his hand and asked where he was going. He couldn’t say a word instead pointed on to the sky lanterns. He was overly amazed, because it was his first time to see them, and it was quite unusual for him to see such without being operated by anyone. These lanterns were unbelievably beautiful. I had an odd feeling while closely staring at them. According to many Asian people, these lighted balloons, also known as wish lanterns symbolize a release of their worries and problems.
